The Franklin Institute and Pacific Science Center

Terracotta Warriors of the First Emperor

Location: Philadelphia, PA and Seattle, WA

The Franklin Institute and Pacific Science Center partnered to develop this exciting exhibition investigating the science behind the Terracotta Warriors, and the technological advancements of the Qin Dynasty. The exhibit includes over 300 artifacts, including 10 real figures from China, and will travel to two locations. The creative vision, narrative outline and organizing structure was developed by The Franklin Institute team and carried out by USA and Gecko Group. USA managed the design/build process, and exhibits included casework, graphics, media, projection mapping, mechanical interactives, scenic replicas, and fully immersive elements.

Content explores production methods of the warriors, how they were discovered and reassembled by archaeologists, and poses investigative questions for visitors to consider. All real artifacts, including the warriors from China, are displayed on custom platforms and cases that allow visitors access up close. In addition to artifact displays, graphics and interactives, USA also created three fully immersive experiences in the exhibit to transport visitors to another place and time: The entry experience, iconic immersive replica pit, and closing gallery with a tomb.

You can see this exhibit now at the Pacific Science Center, and at The Franklin Institute starting September 30th.
